Greg Babcock Final Thoughts

I have to say that GRA 217 has been an invaluable course in my Newhouse education. Considering that I had literally no knowledge of Adobe InDesign or Illustrator, this course was a great introduction to the two programs. Considering that any sort of design in contemporary culture involves digital design in some form or another, it makes the most sense that this course is a gateway to finding design work. I know I learned a lot, but I still need to learn a lot more.

Thank you Renee and Louis!

I really enjoyed this class because it allowed non-graphics student the opportunity to learn different techniques and programs that they would not have otherwise been able to learn. I am happy that I was able to learn how to use InDesign, Photoshop, and Ilustrator. I think these programs are becoming more widely used and it is wonderful to be able to know how to use them, at least a little bit. The lectures were extremely helpful because it allowed peer critiques. It is always important to have others look at your work because your eyes can miss details, especially when you’ve been looking at a project for a long time. Overall I really enjoyed this course, and while the course work was quite intense it was enjoyable and always beneficial.

I had a lot of fun in this class. Fist of all, I am really thankful towards our professor Stevens. Thank you for being so approachable and nice throughout the whole semester. I learned a lot from you. Secondly, I loved these hands on project. I always like to make something out of my own hand instead of learning theories all the time. Thus, I really enjoyed doing the projects and listen to the per’s opinion during the critics. The critics is a great way to learn and improve.I am really glad to have a bunch of nice, thoughtful, and imaginative classmate who gave me so many great advices. To sum up, it has been a great semester. Have a great break am I will miss u guys!

I don’t even know where to begin to try and wrap up this semester of graphics. I have learned so much about typography and what goes into making a clean, creative and elegant design, and I can’t thank Renee and Louis enough for all they have done. I looked forward to going to class each day and it was great to get my classmate’s opinion on my designs.

I completely accept the fact that I have become a graphic design nerd… I find myself getting excited over the new design on the Pillsbury crescent roll container (that uses Helvetica by the way), and getting angry when someone uses Comic Sans in any place other than the Sunday comics. Like Renee said, “It’s a disease that you can never get rid of,” but I love it and I am so glad I have learned so much about designing.

What stood out the most in this class was how all of us were able to improve throughout the semester. It was very interesting to see how people’s work evolved especially from the drafts to the final versions. I appreciate that professor Renee allowed us to express ourselves at the fullest level and gave us the opportunity to learn from our mistakes. I think that we are all proud of the work we created in this class and we will be able to apply this knowledge to future projects. Overall, great class!

I have yet to encounter anything better then an hour 1/2 with Renée and Louie.  My favorite class, it was so nice. I really enjoyed all the projects, even the dreaded logo assignment. I am still working on it. I had a lot a fun designing my interface. I was able to put a ton of work into it and I definitely think it shows a progress throughout the semester. The whole class was very enjoyable and I liked that we had so many discussions. I am hooked on graphic design now, and I search for creative new ideas in my free time.
